About Me
As long as I can remember, I have had a sincere fascination with the natural environment around me. Tracking down springs across from my childhood home led to learning about native salamanders and spring ephemeral plants.
My education at NC State University gave me the foundation to expand my knowledge of native plants as well as ornamentals. I want to share my love for plants with everyone, especially through travels and exploration.
Plant Palette
My B.S. in Horticultural Science from NC State University has prepared me with a diverse knowledge of native and ornamental plants. I experiment in my garden with all types of plants, but prefer to incorporate as many plants native to the South Eastern US as I can.
Inspiration From ExperIence Abroad
Since deepening my passion for horticulture, I have spent time in three countries with observing plants.
South Africa
I interned at Babylonstoren, a renowned hotel and garden dating back to the 17th c
entury. I became familiar with the fynbos biome of the Western Cape. I was responsible for taking care of indigenous succulents, tropical plants in the spice house, and fruit trees.
China
I traveled with NC State Plant Biology sutdents and Dr. Thomas Went
worth and Dr. Jenny Xiang to observe the disjunct
ion of plants between Eastern North America and Eastern China. My course project focused on theorigins of Ginkgo biloba by tracking the age of the oldest populations to specific ancient sites.
India
During a bike trip through Uttarhakand, I botanized in the temperate rainforest. Aroids including Saurumatum and Amorphophallus were abundant. I stayed on a farm in the small village of Guhagar in Maharashtra.
